Opalite is a human-made material created to look similar to opal. With the cost of natural opal going up, French chemist Pierre Gilson created the first synthetic opal that was naturally silica based in 1972. After selling his design in 1980, various manufacturers began tweaking the it to create the stone you see today. It can be a mix of glass, resin, and some silicate to create a gorgeous effect similar to opal.
How do you feel about lab created material? Everything is all about intentions. When you think about it, creating stones or “crystal alchemy” has a place for being a symbol of our evolution and scientific (or magical 😉) development.
