Onyx is the "Grandmother stone," with lots of joyful loving energy about it. Did you know it's also an older version of calcite? The older the calcite gets, the harder and more stable it gets (not unlike some grandmothers, right?). 
Onyx was also used in ancient times as a show of good faith and protection. Some even believed it to counteract poison...but we won't be making that claim here.
